N.Y. METROPOLIS BRASS & DRUM CORPS

The New York Metropolis Brass and Drum Corps was established in 2021 by Founders Victor English, Elmo James, Sabrina Jones and Marchello Baine. New York Metropolis Group, Inc. is a charitable organization with federal status as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The group is dedicated to the revitalization of brass and drum corps, a lost community art form that was prevalent in the inner cities and enjoyed massive involvement. Communities thrived and supported the corps from their neighborhoods in all five boroughs. The legacy photos, below, demonstrate the level of involvement and the excitement for competition.

Color guards were also a main segment of the drum corps unit. Flags, military sabers and marching rifles made each brass and drum corps complete in its presentation and its uniqueness. Parades and short trips to performance venues were the normal weekend activities for members to look forward to. Participation created a sense of pride, discipline, fun and camaraderie. It helped develop important leadership skills, and the brass and drum corps paramilitary instruction fostered integrity and respect; members became doctors, lawyers, Air Force pilots, music teachers and entrepreneurs. Most importantly, the activity gave young people a sense of purpose and accountability.

New York Metropolis Group, Inc. is committed to addressing the challenges in today's inner-city communities by offering this brass and drum corps program to young men and women and reviving community and neighborhood pride with this lost musical art form.
